"Bestiarri" Etching, 1900s

The 'Bestiarri' in ancient Rome was name given to fighters trained specifically to fight and handle wild animals, they often wore elaborate helmets decorated with manes or mounted heads of lions, tigers and leopards - the more terrifying the headpiece the more powerful and self-assured the fighter. The delicate etching from the early 1900s is drawn in incredible detail, it's been reframed with new passepartout and set in a beautiful hand-carved antique wood frame behind gallery-grade glass.
